Bayou Caviar director interviews via Envision Networks® guest booking service
(October 2018) — Actor/director Cuba Gooding Jr. recently interviewed with affiliate stations of Envision Networks®’ Guest Services to talk about his directorial debut, Bayou Caviar, starring Famke Janssen, Richard Dreyfuss, Katherine McPhee, and Cuba himself as a former boxer who witnesses a murder. Gooding Jr. gave stations the downlow on the upcoming film, as well as some other noteworthy moments from his illustrious career.
Gooding Jr. told KOMP-FM in Las Vegas about his first meeting with Robert De Niro on the set of Men of Honor. “First day of filming with him I’ll never forget,” Cuba said about De Niro. “I said, ‘Hey how you doing?’ and he looked at me like I was crazy, like ‘Why are you talking to me?’ And I was like, okay it’s gonna’ be a long month. And at the end of that day, the AD, one of the PAs, came to my door and knocked and said Mr. De Niro would like to see you in his trailer. And I thought okay, I’m screwed. And I knocked on his door, his assistant handed me an apple martini, and it was the best 2 hours of my life.”

Cuba also told KNXR-FM in Rochester about his Oscar, which he didn’t expect to win. Though his winning pre-dated the “Oscars So White” movement by almost 20 years, the Oscars of 1997 were criticized for shutting out black actors. Cuba told KNXR, “There was a lot of fervor because there weren’t a lot of black nominees… And I thought to myself, there’s no way they’re going to give me that award. I was just paranoid that I was going to be some poster child for being snubbed, so when they called my name I was more jumping up and down and happy that I wouldn’t be involved in some backlash. It was just a crazy moment.”
