Panel of rock’s top guitar slingers join host in choosing essential 90s guitar albums

It’s the sweet 16 season for Envision Networks’ The Chop Shop and we’re plugging in the axes and cranking it to 11 with a brand-new countdown that will run throughout 2019. HostSteve Black surveyed some of rock’s best guitar slingers to determine the Top 50 Essential Guitar Albums of the 90s and count them down.

“The 90s are vastly underrated from a guitar standpoint,” said Chop Shop host and longtime Detroit radio mainstay,” Steve Black. “The music styles changed, the look changed, even the production changed but the evolution of the guitar within rock music was as powerful and passionate as ever.”

How the best was determined

Steve Black put together an expert panel that includes a wide spectrum of talent from Alice In Chains, Joe Satriani, Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Dream Theater to Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Steve Vai, Guns N’ Roses, and Pearl Jam. Steve used a combination of guitar proficiency, album legacy, influence and album sales to develop his ranking of the top guitar albums from the 90s.
